A LITTLE ABOUT ME

Hugo Chibante.
Curious by nature.

I’m a Portuguese photographer and filmmaker, drawn to people, movement, and the stories beneath the surface.

A CAMERA. AN IDEA. A PLACE TO START.

It starts with
curiosity.

I come from Portugal, and for the past five years I’ve been building a life in the Netherlands. I’m still learning Dutch, somewhere around A2 to early B1. It’s hard, and progress isn’t always quick, but I’m doing my best. There’s always something new to learn, and I like having a reason to keep going.

I’m outgoing, and people interest me. I want to know what someone is thinking, where they come from, and the experiences that have shaped them. That curiosity is one of the things that led me towards photography and filmmaking. A camera gives me another way to pay attention, to notice a gesture, an expression, or a moment worth keeping.

Storytelling is at the heart of what I do. My background in marketing, content creation, and social media has taught me to think about how a story reaches someone. Photography and film give me room to explore how it feels: the light, the movement, the details, and the person behind them.

I feel things deeply, and that finds its way into what I create. Poetry is one of my loves. Sometimes a photograph holds a feeling; sometimes I need to write it down. Having space for both feels natural to me.

Away from the camera, movement is a big part of my life. I’m a heavyweight calisthenics athlete with a love of gymnastics. I also train Krav Maga and dance bachata. Strength, discipline, music, and connection all have a place in my week.

I care about doing things well, and I’m always looking for how to take an idea further. If a story can be told with more care, or a small detail can make the work stronger, I want to put in that effort. I bring that same drive to training, learning, and creating.

That’s the person behind this portfolio: curious about people, moved by stories, and always finding another reason to create. I hope you find something here that makes you pause, feel, or look a little closer.

WORKING TOGETHER

A conversation. An idea.
Something we make.

I like to start by listening. Tell me what you want to share, who it’s for, and what matters to you. From there, we can shape a photograph, a film, or a creative idea together, with care for the story and the details.
